About UniteFW


What is UniteFW?

UniteFW is a community based information hub that focuses on gang prevention and gang awareness resources in Federal Way. We seek to unite the community by increasing gang awareness, by empowering parents, educators, and citizens with knowledge and resources to keep our youth safe from gang influence, and by connecting people to the services they need. One outcome of UniteFW is to help Federal Way be a community that unites resources and knowledge to create a safe and fun environment for all people to live in.

The Goals of UniteFW

  1. Increase awareness and educate the community about gang prevention in Federal Way.
  2. Connect individuals, families, and those needing assistance with local programs and organizations that can help.
  3. Inspire our community to action and create a connection between those that want to help and the places that need help.
  4. Strengthen the community as a whole against gang violence and activities/situations that make Federal Way vulnerable.

Who Created UniteFW

UniteFW was created by the Advancing Leadership (AL) class of 2010. AL’s mission is to transform passionate people into a community of extraordinary leaders. The comprehensive program builds relationships, develops personal strengths, and inspires a commitment to action. AL was developed by the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce and local community partners.

Many influential leaders in our city were polled to discover the direction that Advancing Leadership should focus. Gang prevention for youth was the topic we were asked to build our project around.

The idea for UniteFW started in December 2009, when AL 2010 decided to create a Web site as an information source for the community to use to protect our youth and unite our city.

How will UniteFW be supported?

The Advancing Leadership Annual Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament has been established as a funding mechanism for the Unite FW Web site. Other gang awareness and prevention activities, particularly for youth, may be funded from remaining funds from this fundraising. A board will be established to provide direction for the future of the Web site as a community partnership of information sharing, and will connect with any future gang awareness and prevention actions in Federal Way.
